    The Mammoth Cave

Mammoth Cave is the world’s longest cave which is located in Kentucky. We’ve walked and hiked the cave for 8 miles, 8 hours for 2 days.

I brought my DSLR on Day 1 but didn’t use it at all because the cave was too dark, and since you have to join a big group of people I really didn’t get enough time to compose a shot. No tripods allowed. So which means handheld + poor light = blurry photos. Poor foresight in my part. But I have my point and shoot in my pocket so that’s what I used for the most part of the trip.

It’s 54F inside the cave but outside it gets up to 90F. If you must have to bring your expensive camera, put it in a locked plastic bag as moist builds up too quickly as you head up the exit.

    What's in your home screen?

This is what I have in my iPhone home screen.

And these are my folders. There are still a lot in my iTunes but I don’t use them anymore. I get OC closing all inactive apps but Twitter, Chaos Rings, Gowalla, and Twitter stay. (Click on the pictures to make it larger.)

    So what’s yours?

    Another 2-yr commitment

Here it is! My old iPhone 3G is really acting up. It’s slow as a turtle and freezes up most of the time. I gave up to that one, and dive in to this new one.

One more thing. The antenna issue is so overrated.

    American Idol Live!

    Taran-tan-taran…tsk..tsk…tan-tan-tan-taran!

For those who have followed Season 9 of American Idol, I recommend you to watch their tour in your area or in a neighboring state. We drove 2 hours to Kentucky to watch them! They actually sound better live.

Interestingly, since the organizers did not allow any zoom lenses in the event, the picture above was taken using a pocket camera whose lens is tagged on with a binocular. (creative eh? things you have to do…)

    Scan your face (literally)

This is a fun project I made today.

    What you need:

    1. random objects
    2. scanner
    3. your face

If you have time, you can be creative by making a story or theme. But I don’t. I just woke up, grabbed nearby objects, and slapped my face in the scanner. Thanks @Photojojo!

    Shutter speed + Fireworks

According to pros, there is no perfect shutter speed when photographing fireworks. So last night, I experimented to take pictures at different shutter speeds (2,5,8,10). 30 sec didn’t make the cut as it looked over-saturated.

Based on the outcome, 2-5 seconds look decent enough. I need more practice.

    Google is controlling.

I have to say the big G has occupied my private space, in a good way. This is not a Google Advertisement.

    Applications

The first thing I do when I wake up is check my email. I shifted my work email from Yahoo to Gmail a year ago to run from all the spams that Y! has been giving me. It was a headache when I miss important mails that were sent in my spam. Then I kind of wonder why people keeps telling me that I don’t open my emails. Guys, if you’re reading this… now you know. So far gMail has been a wonderful postman. It keeps me sane. Keeps them sane.

The second thing I do is see if I’m going to do something for my day. Gone are the days when I use sticky notes to remind me my work days, or important occasions. The sticky part of the sticky notes do not last long and after several days, they’ll end up in the floor and so am I. gCal is very easy to use with the ability to share events, print my calendar, and it syncs seamlessly with my phone. On the side note, using gCal makes me feel being a grown up.

A week ago, I received an invite to try Google Voice. Not that I’m not happy with the visual voicemail feature of the iPhone but gVoice will save all my VMs, transcribe it, and send it to me through text and email. Very nifty feature that I believe we all should have.

And lastly, I use Google search all day. Sometimes I ran out of things to search and be bummed. Google is one of the world’s greatest invention of our time. I remember the days when I go to the library and carry those dusty, thick encyclopedias. Then I’ll spend several hours in there to find something about someone about a paragraph or two and photocopy several pictures about it. Such a waste of ‘about’.

That’s how Google has been controlling my daily life.  Of course, I do have other choices out there. But for now, I’ll be sticking to G.

Relating to my previous post, I ended up calling AT&T about my upgrade question. After being on hold for 40 minutes, they we’re already to fix it. It has something to do with an invalid discount code that’s keeping me for an upgrade. I don’t care what that means, I just want it to be fixed.  In fairness, their customer service has been better. I only talked to 1 agent and to get hold of someone is easy.

Had they failed to address this issue, I am prepared to end all my dealings with them (internet, landline, and wireless). I was looking at EVO 4G from Sprint as a second option, and since I have cable from Time Warner they could simply take care of the internet.

Big thanks to David from their Billing (Business) Dept. You deserve a promotion!

  • June 14, 01:21 PM

I have been trying to find out if I’m eligible for an upgrade to iPhone 4 but this error message keeps showing up. Calling a rep from AT&T does not help either. If this is something that would halt my plan make an upgrade, heads will roll.

Looking back 5 months ago, I applied a corporate discount to my current plan that would give me 24% discount on my bill.  Don’t tell me that it has something to do with this or that I renewed my contract without even knowing. I missed the fine prints.
